Windsor 1st XI vs. Sonning

By August 21, 2020 No Comments

On the 15th of August Windsor hosted Sonning’s first team. Sonning were top of the table and the team to beat.
On arrival at the ground both teams were shocked at the sight of an extremely green, pudding like pitch. The heavy rains over the days prior left the pitch saturated.
The umpire felt that the pitch required some time to dry and the game start time was delayed by 45mins.
Following a second inspection it was agreed that the pitch was not going to dry up and the game should be held regardless. A reduced 38 over a side format was agreed.
Windsor got off to a shaky start with both openers Chris Dixon and Dean Allen Turner returning to the pavilion in the first 5 overs. This brought Sam Jordan to the crease. Sam quickly adapted to the pitch and played several delightful aerial shots to get the score board ticking.
Sam was joined by Ryan Lewis and then skipper Mark Lines in two critical partnerships. Sam went on to score a fifty and some late hitting from Kai Z and Charlie Jackson allowed Windsor to reach a total of 186 – a very competitive total given the state of the pitch.
From the outset Sonning struggled to score runs at the required rate and some good bowling from Kai, Charlie, Oliver Jordan and Saleem Masood allowed Windsor to pick up 4 wickets in quick succession. This brought Sonning’s Jamie Tidbury to the crease. Jamie timed the ball with incredible ease and seemed completely unaffected by the wet green pitch. Accompanied by his captain Andrew Niblett they put on a strong partnership. However the introduction of Mark Lines to the attack stemmed the flow of runs and led to the end of the resistance from Sonning. Mark finished with 4 wickets and Sonning fell to 171 all out.
Windsor are away next week and take on Sulhamstead & Ufton.
Windsor Highlights:
Sam Jordan – 57 runs
Kai Z – 5 overs, 2 maidens , 5 runs
Charlie Jackson – 8 overs, 41 runs, 3 wickets
Mark Lines – 6 overs, 21 runs, 4 wickets
