Marlow Park 3rd XI vs Windsor 4th XI – Saturday 22nd August
Windsor 236 for 8 (50 overs) C. Light 67, O. Smith 57, E. Atkinson 5-73.
Marlow Park 140 for 7 (50 overs)
For the 6th time in row, Windsor skipper Light lost the toss and his side were put in on a greenish Marlow Park wicket. The opening pair got off to a steady start before, Bullock was hit by a sharp delivery in the lunchbox, leaving his protection literally shattered in pieces. Understanderbly Bullock went soon after. Following this, Light decided to hit the ball to all parts, athough steadily losing partners. When he was eventually out out on 67, it left Windsor 112 for 5 after only 26 overs. This left both colt Ollie Smith & Vice Captain Michael Gegg to pick up the pieces and they put on 75 for the 6 wicket to push the away side close to the magic 200 mark. A maiden 50 for Smith including 3 sixs, bodes well for Windsor in future years. A quick flurry of runs from Surya & Hartrige at the end, left Windsor able to declare on 236 for 8 after 50 overs.
In reply, Marlow Park were never in with a siff of winning the game. Rob Hodgon’s fine swing bowling kept runs down to a minimum and took care of the opening batsman. Swing bowling was the order of the day, with Light taking 2 wickets in 5 balls before drinks to leave the home side 5 down for a mere 60 runs. A wicket with the 1st bowl after drinks kept the pressure on, but then knowing they had no chance of victory, the home side’s middle order literally dug in. The negative tactics were highlighted by the number 6 batsman scoring a mere 3 runs in 25 overs of bowling. With this Windsor the found the final breakthroughs require impossible to come by. A frustrating end to the afternoon!
