A HARD DAY’S NIGHT!
Hampton Hill 3rd XI 229/6 (52 Overs) Coates 46, Bryant 38 not out, Wells 36, Khanna 25/2, R Hughes 56/2.
Windsor 4th XI 159 All Out (38.5 Overs) S. Martin 67 not out, B. Lewis 27, Dileepan 12/4, Karthik 24/3.
This early season friendly was effectively wrapped up in 2 overs around 6.00pm that evening.
Hampton Hill made a strong start with an opening partnership of 62 which was broken with 2 quick wickets by Windsor opening bowler Robin Hughes. This only caused Hampton’s flow of runs to stutter slightly. Pushing on, by the 40th over only 15 year old Ashwin Khanna had made any further in roads and a strong finish gave them a good total of 229 on a fairly lively wicket. In reply, Windsor made a disasterous start. The 2 Hampton Hill opening bowlers ripped through the top ordering leaving the batting team on 5/4! This was headed up by 13 year old Dileepan’s swing bowling, with 3 early wickets. This left Windsor with only survival on their minds. Bravely top Windsor batsman Scott Martin dug in, with able support from Michael Gegg (16) & Ben Lewis (27) hitting some powerful strokes. After getting to 3 figures, the pressure finally told with further wickets falling and Windsor struggling to 159 all out, with Martin finishing on 67 not out.
All in all, it was a friendly, and there is hope that Windsor can take some positives from the game………
